How did I get into the Whores? Now that is a very interesting question, with an even longer answer. But to cut a long story short, Emily asked me.
The Whores Next Door are my first band (if you don't count a couple of school bands where I played the keyboards and tormented parents, teachers and students alike with the worst version of 'Rock The Boat' I have ever heard the misfortune to hear), and I've been having a bloody ball. Once I got to grips with using a microphone that is (at the first gig I blew the speakers on the PA with the high note in Burn - Sorry Nik).
Musically, I come from an almost purely accoustic background. Choirs, wind, and string instruments were pretty much it really. All these electrical gizmo's are completley new to me. I didn't even know what foldbak was until a couple of months ago. Hopefully I'll never blow another speaker again (three and counting).
M whole family is ver musical, although mostly brass instruments (I swear we have enough people to start a brass band). My uncle plays brass in a rock'n'roll band. I think I was watching him up on stage play guitar and singing his lungs out when I was a kid which really interested me in the whole band buzz.
I never actualy wanted to be a singer. I was more of a bassist, rhythm guitarists type person. Out of the lime light was where I was most comfortable. I think I had a deep seated desire to sing my heart out in front of lots of people, but I never really had the guts to do it. I remember our first gig, I was so nervous and my body was shaking so hard I could hardl hold a note. But boy did I feel good afterwards. Euphoria is the word that can even come close to the feeling when you play your first gig....
